The Bell Jar
OverviewIn this redesigned cover, it is a new interpretation of the timeless and reflective novel written by Sylvia Plath. While reading this book I constantly felt the sense of disassociation between the main character, Ester Underwood, between her body and mind. Therefore, I wanted to use that as a focal point while creating the cover.
Ester talks about her life being seen as standing under a fig tree, feeling pressured to make a decision regarding her life, and whether or not she made the right choice or not. I decided to incorporate an illustrative image of a fig branch for that reason. The color combination of pink and purple was used to show how purple represents the body, which is grounded, and pink for the mind, which is free-floating.
